Today I pulled and transported this big guy from the West Valley Shelter to a clinic in Orange County for a rescue from up north that I work with a lot and who are really good people. I decided to use the kennel card picture so that those among you who do not pull from the shelter can see what a rescue sees and must use to make a quick call on whether to pull an animal from a shelter or leave him or her to die. And die they will if they are not rescued. Looking at this guy, it appears that he might be 70 lbs. or so. He is a senior boy around 7-8 years old and looks to have a good disposition towards people. There are no obvious medical conditions visible and he is a mix of boxer and something (?). This is what a rescue has to work with. I pulled him and it turns out that he weighs close to 90 lbs., is very affectionate, and a senior of about 8 or so. He does have kennel cough, no treatment given (more costs), not unusual. Overall he’s definitely worth saving. Rescues make these hard choices everyday on very little info on the dog. Just go with your heart and hope for the best. It’s all any of us can do.

First I went to the Santa Paula shelter and picked up a beagle and chi puppy. Next I went to the Camarillo shelter and picked up 3 more beagles, but 2 had kennel cough, so I drove to Canoga park and delivered two beagles and the chi to the adoption center. Then I drove back to Camarillo, picked up the other 2 who had kennel cough and drove back down to Canoga Park with these two separately, because I didn’t want anyone else to catch the kennel cough. Lots of time and lots of mileage, but if they get there furever home, its worth it.
