Today I took off to an Arizona kennel that was keeping dogs that had hastily departed the northwest about a month ago via a Semi truck in the middle of the night. Well they landed at a kennel out in the middle of the desert, so far out that the two GPS units I use couldn’t agree where we were and had me going down an old goat trail. Finally I got turned around and made it to where the dogs were and picked up the four that were scheduled for a flight out of Van Nuys. We loaded up and off we went. We arrived late at night and therefore we all just hunkered down in the van and went to sleep. Somewhat. Come morning it was pottie break time for everyone and then it was loading time for the aircraft and all went really well. In no time they were airborne and on their way to their forever homes and maybe, just maybe, they can forget all the hardships endured to get there. It’s been a long and hard journey for these guys and I do wish them some quiet time in the future.

I Guess Size Matters
Today I went to a shelter to pick up a very large toy poodle. Remember this is a mini, maybe weighs in at 10 lbs or so and always can you carry them to the van, well maybe not this one. She weighs in at a whopping 33 lbs. She looked like a cotton ball with four legs. That puts her at nearly 20 lbs or so overweight. Well, the rescue knows how to get her weight down safely and I would love to see some pictures of before and after. But it will be a food battle I am sure. The shelter says she was a stray, don’t see how, unless they picked her up right next door to where she lived. She walked to the van and was winded. I would say her former owners just dumped her and drove off. Nice folks.
