Today I pulled a Cane Corso from the South L.A. shelter, by phone, for someone else to pickup and transport. I was tied up on another transport and there was no way I could get to South L.A. in time. Just because I was previously committed, doesn’t mean that he has to die, but that was the choice. This particular breed doesn’t have a strong adoption record with the public and not many rescues will take them on because of their close association as fighting dogs. But a rescue I work with wanted him, so we arranged it the way it went down. He will be leaving L.A. in a few days for a much better life than he has ever known in these parts. I just hope one day he realizes just how close he came to the rainbow bridge. Luckily there are still people that care, not many, but some.

16 Saved Today
16, sounds like a lot and it is. Did we put a dent in the shelter’s numbers so they won’t have to kill maybe for a few days, probably not. But it’s worth it to the folks that labor so hard to save each life. And I know it’s important to each and every one of these dogs. And its important to me. We all do what we can, some more than others, but every dog saved is one less put in the barrel and sent to the rendering plants. Just one dog at a time and sometimes it adds up, like today.
