Animal Transport

I went to a shelter today to pull 9 dogs that were to be killed if not out now. The little terrier that you see in the photo was suffering from an infected bite wound that was getting worse. I pulled her and had her loaded, ready to go to a vet’s, when the shelter staff pulled her back and cancelled his departure. Why? They said they wanted her to go to their vet to determine whether she could be treated or killed. They took her and the vet said kill her. Well that caused an expected uproar as you can image. After much discussion, she was re-pulled from the shelter and taken to another vet, where they began her treatment and hopefully she will be fine in a few weeks. So much drama could have been avoided if I had just taken her as originally planned. It’s never ending.

After the terrier episode, I continued on and pulled the other eight dogs and off we went to a boarding facility. As they were pretty full, I had to do a swap. Drop 8 off and pick up 7 more that were going to the vet’s to be fixed and readied for transport up north. So we unloaded and reloaded as one went out, one was reloaded. When all this was done, it was off to the vet office we went. One dog did have kennel cough and when I walked in, they said they don’t take dogs that are sick. For a moment I thought I walked into a bakery. It’s a vet office, and you don’t take sick dogs. I was floored. I kept my cool while they discussed it and they decided that maybe they did. I off-loaded and departed, not too happy. I would prefer not to go back there again. I also think they need to find another line of work.
