Today I pulled poor Bella from a shelter who had twice adopted her out. Both times she was returned to the shelter, but not her fault. Landlord disputes, and wrong dog for person, and back she went. This shelter doesn’t do it a third time, she was to get no more chances. So she was listed rescue only and I got a call at 9pm in the evening, “Can you go pull her tomorrow. It’s her last day”. Of course I will. No dog deserves to die in any shelter, and especially for faults out of her control. Now she is safe and off to a good rescue that will take the time and find her a home of her own. And I bet she never will come back again.
And More On The Way
Today I pulled these two adorable chihuahuas from a shelter, and yes one is very much pregnant. We needed to get both out of the shelter as it’s, once again, their last day. Would a shelter put down a pregnant mom? Yep, they will and they have. That’s why even though we all strive for spay and neuter, when a pregnant one comes along, we can’t just stand by and see them all die, most rescues just can’t do that. Yes homes will be found for the pups in about 10 weeks or so, if they all make it; and yes we don’t want them to get this way, but when they are, they will be cared for, as all are.
